Some alternative options for backsplash kitchen tiles
Chalkboard & magnetic paint
In these options, you need to use 2 different coats of paint. The magnetic paint should be the first coat and you have to use a small roller to do this. The next coat should be the chalkboard paint. Using a brush, move it in an upward motion and make sure that the edges and the corners will be covered. The backsplash part will now be the message center and then it can hold the magnetic hooks or even clips for some decorative magnets.
Vinyl floor tiles
You can use twelve inch sq. self-adhesive vinyl floor tiles that will provide you with the unique type of kitchen backsplash result. The vinyl floor tiles usually cost less than two dollars per sq. and they are also easier to cut using a straight edge and a utility knife as well. The use of rolling pin through the tiles can help in making sure that they are fully stuck to the wall.
You can also use wallpaper in creating a backsplash design in the kitchen. You just have to cut the piece of the wallpaper to fit into the backsplash part and then paste the wallpaper there. Just after placing the wallpaper on the wall, you need to wipe it from the center of the edges just to eradicate the bubbles and then as soon as the wallpaper dries up, you can brush it with a varnish to make it waterproof. This will keep the wallpaper protected from grease.
If you have plans to change the look of your kitchen tile by using a backsplash, you have to plan it carefully because the pattern should go hand in hand with the overall design and color of the kitchen. You have to always keep the design simple. If this is your first time to try this and install a tile, you have to stick with the basic design so you will not repent your decision later on in life.
One of the simplest is to make a checkerboard pattern with the use of a dark and a light colored tile. Mixing the tiles is not easy but you can do that by turning the tiles in their points to make a diamond look.
You can also do a randomize pattern to create a contemporary look. To do this, you can skip the usual pattern and make a grid, diamond, brick and others. You can use different colors and sizes throughout the design and you can also use bolder blue color or captivating red to make the design eye catching.
